                    Oru Deshathinte Kadha is a malayalam novel written by S K Pottekkatt. The story is about a boy named 'sreedharan' who was a resident in 'Athiranippadam'. The story revolves around the 20 year life of sreedharan in Athiranippadam. The story mainly travels through the  childhood and teenage of sreedharan.Sreedharan leaves Athiranippadam after his father's death and the story ends where sreedharan return to Athiranippadam after a long 30 years.The story was prevailing in British India . Each and every person in the village of Athiranippadam was a character in the story, Not only people in Athiranippadam but villagers in Ilanjippoyil where ,sreedharans mothers home was situated were characters in this book .Example sreedharans best friend Appu in ilanjippoyil. Through appu author discuss about a famous myth relating to 'Neelakoduveli'. 
                       S K Pottakkatt ,whose travelogue considered to be a masterpiece in malayalam literature. In this book also, the way S K Pottakkatt describes Athiranippadam and Ilanjippoyil is very intresting. We get a clear picture about the geography, climatic conditions and other details of the village from his writing. It is belived that a remote village in kozhikode is described as Athiranippadam and all the characters are real life characters. This book travels through the life of more than hundred characters ,who lives around sreedharan. some of the intresting one's are kunjappu,sreedharans brother and Appu( sreedharans friend in ilanjippoyil).This book brings back the childhood memories of us especially ,those who enjoyed village life. The book was awarded Kendra Sahitya Academy Award in 1972 and the Jnanpith Award in 1980.
